*Calcium oxide is a component of almost all insulation materials used today and leads thermochemically to the formation of the carcinogenic and chronically environmentally harmful chromium (VI) compound calcium chromate (CaCrO4).
Cleansulation®Technology is far more than just a product – it is the holistic ecosystem for a Chromium(VI)-free future in thermal insulation.
Through the interplay of
-
revolutionary innovation - Cleansulation®Technology,
-
in-depth knowledge exchange - Cleansulation®Academy, and
-
independent quality assurance - Cleansulation®Association,
the system provides a seamless and legally compliant solution.
It not only protects the health of employees but also maximizes operational safety and secures the long-term value of industrial assets.
Cleansulation®Technology is the decisive step towards a clean and safe industrial manner.
The future of thermal insulation is calcium-free*!
Chemistry Doesn't Lie:
No Calcium - No Chromium (VI)

The Asbestos Lesson; Why We Must Act Now
Because heat hit the wrong thing
Since the phase-out of asbestos, the industry has relied on calcium-containing insulation products like mineral wool, glass fabrics, and calcium silicates on hot stainless steel components. Today, we know better. We now understand that calcium oxides in these insulation materials and systems react thermochemically with the stainless steel surface; and this reaction creates carcinogenic and environmentally hazardous Chromates (Chromium (VI)-compounds); often visible as a yellowish powder - which pose immense inhalative and dermal health risks!
Even in the smallest quantities, chromates are considered carcinogenic without a threshold value, both when inhaled and - because they are water-soluble - when absorbed through the skin.
Cleansulation®Technology prevents this tragic reaction at the source by deploying guaranteed calcium-free insulation systems.
However, simply swapping out the old elements is not enough!
Hazardous dust has settled far beyond the source, turning safe workspaces into critical danger zones.
Thorough remediation is therefore mandatory before the insulation can be safely substituted.
Scroll down or click the button above to see how we are mastering chromium (VI) in order to ultimately prevent the forming of the yellowish toxins because mastering means ASSESS, ABATE and AVOID Chromium (VI), the Asbestos of the 21st century.
01
ASSESS
In the Assess phase, we rely on the objective expertise of SEEF B.V., an entirely independent external laboratory Dutch service provider . We collaborate with them specifically because their patented analytical technology is uniquely calibrated to detect Chromium(VI) even when masked by complex insulation materials—a precision that standard methods often miss . This strict organizational separation between our remediation services and their independent verification guarantees absolutely impartial and legally secure results for your risk assessment .

02
ABATE
The Abate phase eliminates the immediate hazard through professional deinstallation and rigorous deep decontamination of your facility . Our certified CORE experts are specifically trained to work in these critical 'black areas,' ensuring that all carcinogenic dusts and old materials are safely removed and disposed of as hazardous waste . This comprehensive remediation creates a verifiable 'clean slate,' serving as the mandatory prerequisite for the safe installation of the new calcium-free system .

03
AVOID
The Avoid phase delivers the ultimate goal: permanent prevention through substitution. By installing our certified, calcium-free VitroSilK® insulation systems, we physically eliminate the chemical root cause of the hazard—following the strictly proven formula 'No Calcium – No Chromium(VI)' . This final step ensures that carcinogenic chromates can never form again, securing a compliant, future-proof, and safe working environment for the long term .

Chromium (VI) Awareness
we have to learn
The Cleansulation®Academy provides essential knowledge on Chromium(VI), recognized as a highly dangerous workplace carcinogen.
Ranging from the SHEQ basic package to the CORE Masterclass, the training covers chemical origins, mandatory safety measures, and often overlooked environmental risks.
Participants gain the expertise needed to understand, manage, and ultimately prevent Chromium(VI) exposure.

Designed to Avoid
No Calcium -
No Chromium (VI)
Developed from a deep understanding of and acceptance for the chromium(VI) formation problem, VitroSilK®, an amorphous, long-fibre silken glass fibre was designed to eliminate the risk at its source.
Its specialised composition is strictly free of (earth) alkali metal oxides and is heat-resistant at temperatures above 750°C, ensuring the carcinogenic reaction never begins.
This preventative solution is available in fabric, mat and wool formats and is accessible exclusively to members of the Cleansulation®Association.

Dancing with the Devil and Calling It Industry Standard
Today's Substitution is Tomorrow's Prevention
Let's be clear:
when calcium-containing insulation meets chromium-alloyed steel at operating temperatures, the formation of carcinogenic chromium(VI) is not a side effect - it is a certainty. A certainty known for many years.
A certainty that science has proven, that regulators have acknowledged, and that the industry has chosen to ignore.
Selecting these materials today is not a technical decision, it is a conscious acceptance of creating a carcinogen in the workplace and there is no excuse of ignorance, no defense of necessity.
VitroSilk® exists.
Substitution is possible.
The law demands it.
The coming REACH restrictions will not create a new obligation - they will merely enforce what European occupational safety law has required all along; a ban of using Chromium (VI) and e.g. installing a contaminated blanket again or trying to "neutralize" the yellowish powder will be a use in the meaning of REACH!
Those who act now demonstrate responsibility.
Those who delay demonstrate something else entirely.
History will not judge kindly those who knew, could have acted, and chose not to.
The insulation industry has learned this lesson before:
It was called asbestos.
01
Risk Assessment
Every intervention begins here. We conduct comprehensive risk assessments in strict accordance with European occupational safety and environmental law.
The S.T.O.P. principle defines the hierarchy:
Substitution first, Technical, Organizational, and Personal measures follow.
No step without analysis. No action without a plan.
02
Detection
Know your enemy, and where it hides. Chromium(VI) doesn't announce itself, but it leaves traces. With cutting-edge mobile and laboratory analysis, we identify contamination with unmatched accuracy;even where conventional tests fail. Detection is the first step to control. Action follows immediately.
03
Deinstallation
Contaminated insulation requires more than removal, it demands control.
We establish sealed enclosures, define black areas, and dismantle under full-body protection following strict safety protocols. Precision first.
Exposure reduced to as low as technically achievable (ALATA).
04
Decontamination
Removal alone is not enough. Chromium(VI) residues persist on surfaces, in crevices, in the finest dust. Our teams clean, reduce, and verify — systematically and thoroughly. Contaminated waste is contained, not released.
No entry into wastewater. No burden on the environment.
No release until certified SEEF B.V. analysis confirms: safe workplace.
05
Substitution
Prevention becomes permanent. The final step. The lasting solution. We install VitroSilK® Shield - engineered without calcium, incapable of forming chromium(VI). What was a hazard becomes history. The formula is non-negotiable, the source is eliminated: no calcium, no chromium(VI)! The cycle ends here.
